The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them.  ~Mark Twain, attributed

I've always had a love for books.  I suppose I could trace that back to being tucked in each night by my grandpa with a good game of hide and go seek and nice story.  My grandparents were both avid readers and I saw them each with a book and their nightstand lights one before retiring for the night.  My grandmother loved writing poems and short stories and if I do recall, won several awards for her writing in college.

My mom didn't need a book to tell a good story.  She had a great imagination and made up a series of books in her mind that she'd tuck me in with.  I can still picture the stories in my mind without ever having seen a picture or the words written on a page.  Come to think of it, I really should encourage her into typing those stories and submitting them for publishing.

I spent many summers visiting with my grandparents in the sunshine of Eastern Washington.  We'd go to the local library once, sometimes twice a week and I would get giddy.  I'd spend my days up in a tree or hanging upside down from the clothes line reading a book.

Somewhere along the line I lost touch with books.  Working, raising kids: you know, cooking, cleaning, driving kids to and from sports, homework....and then working some more seems to have pushed the things I love to the back burner.  I recently started making some me time and picking up the pages again.  Of course, I don't mean that literally since paper books are a thing of the past.  I miss having a library of books, but I must saying slipping my Kindle in my purse and having it just about anywhere I am and have a minute (break at lunch, waiting for my son to get out of driver's ed, soccer field, etc..) has it's definate advantages.

I'm in love all over again with the new places books are taking me.  I can feel my mind expanding and it's a great feeling.  I would love to write a book.  In fact, that's been a dream of mine for many years.  I have the characters, the plot, the title and everything mapped out.  But the thought is a little overwhelming.  For starters, I am one of the worlds least patient people.  That's not very fitting to an author who has to take the time to detail the setting of the story, the people, the feelings, the scents.  I think a single book could very possibly take me years to finish.  How authors can whip out book after book just simply blows my mind.  So I'll pick up my notes and go little by little and see if we ever get there.

But if you haven't made time recently to pick up a book yourself, I'd encourage you to do so!

It really does.

Sometimes it seems like the art of a compliment has been lost in todays world.  But that's one reason why I especially love doing business on Etsy.  People seem to really appreciate the time that goes into creating things by hand.  We often gets notes of appreciation and it never ceases to amaze me.  I mean, they bought something from us.  We should, and do, thank them.  And then I sit back and smile knowing that something we created put a big enough smile on someone's face that they went out of their way to send a little note.

So don't forget to spend an extra minute here and there out of your day to spread a compliment.

And, THANK YOU!
