Looking for ways to help people find the great product you're selling? Sometimes the internet can be a mystery. I'm far from an expert, but with time and research I've found a few ways to help drive more traffic to our products. Guess what, it takes work, and quite a bit of it. OH, and WORDS, lots and lots of words.
I drive all our traffic through Etsy because it is much easier than maintaining a product page myself. Therefore, not all of this will apply to your business if you aren't an Etsy Seller.
So the first thing we need to get down it is this, how are your keywords and tags? Maybe try adding holiday specific tags your items. Selling a red hair bow? Try tagging it with anything you associate with it and perhaps the holiday Valentines Day. Selling a green bracelet? Shoot for St. Patricks Day. Get the drift? And plan your holidays WAY in advance. Your customer might not end up buying the red hair bow and green bracelet, but they've been driving to your site to browse and might fall in love with something else. It's all about traffic.
You can't please everyone all the time. But provide the best customer service you can. Be prompt in shipping and answering questions. I also include our card with a code for 10% off future orders for repeat customers.
Etsy has a number of tools to help make sellers successful. Watch your traffic reports and see where your existing hits are coming from. If you are getting hits from a blog, make sure you say thanks and share that information with your fans on Facebook.
Try making some Treasury Lists featuring one of your items and then some from others with a fun theme.
Etsy also has ads you can purchase . I've experimented with this quite a bit, and my stats don't show that our products had any purchases from the ads. But sellers with other types of product may.
Etsy has teams you can join. Try to be active in it and meet other sellers and share tips.
We often get solicited for free products in exchange for blogs spots and photo shoots. I think this is a great give and take. However, we get hit up A LOT. Try to set a budget on how much product you are willing to give away per month/year and be choosy.
You can go online and search out item specific sites. For example, for our beehive pinata I found a website surrounding bees (Shout out to Baby Bees House) and asked if they would feature our piñata. They were more than willing and published a little ditty about our pinata.
I also went to some VW sites to throw shout outs to our VW bus piñata, followed them on Twitter to share pictures and got a follow in return.
So try search online for things that match what you are selling, email the admin and ask if they would write an article about you or offer to send an item for a giveaway on their site in exchange for advertising.
Button swaps with other like websites and blogs are great.
Also be sure to use the social media available to you, like Facebook and Twitter. Friend request and follow other Etsy sellers. They are all real people too and might need an item you are selling. You can follow Pleasantly Pinatas HERE and we'll follow back!
Don't forget Pinterest. Be sure to pin your products to boards on your Pinterest account using key words.
I think my last bit of advise for today is getting registered with TheFind.com. We've received several hits from this site so I decided to go check it out. You can register with them and make them aware of your product so it will pop up in the search engine.
This one goes out to all my West Coast football fans. How about them 'Hawks? What a great year - so many great players and clearly the Rookie of the Year, Russell Wilson! He's a QB, he's a blocker, he's a running back, he's everything all in one.
Remember if you haven't yet, go HERE to vote for RW3 as ROTY!
And don't forget to participate in Blue Friday tomorrow!
I'm a mother of three. I love arts and crafts, cooking and baking, and reading and writing. This is just a place I come to share a few thoughts and spread the word about other crafters/bloggers.
